Check out some of the paver jobs from the past couple years.
It has been quite a while since my last update. As you may know May is one of the busiest times for us at the nursery with all of the hustle and bustle of Spring. I did manage to snap some pictures a couple weeks back that I can share with you. Lately, we have been experimenting with some water features built out of natural stone. The first rock was found about 4 years ago in a quarry, it had been drilled through with some blasting equipment. I saw it and immediately thought it would make a great water feature. So we dug a hole, put in a EPDM liner and hooked up a pump. The result is a nice, soothing sounding trickle bubbling from the 6″ hole. ![]() Dresser Traprock Boulder w/ blasting hole We got the idea for the second picture in a natural stone magazine. It is hand carved with a grinder equipped with a diamond cutting blade. The water will be pumped into the shallow bowl and cascade off the side, recirculating underneath the rock with a pump. So far I have about 4 hours into the carving with atleast a couple to go. This is something that we are hoping that we can recreate and sell to our customer. If this experiment works, I may try doing one or two more and stacking them so they drop into different pools. ![]() Chilton outcropping stone w/ bowl ![]() Denny doing some tomato seeding Denny has started seeding tomatoes today, as well as onions and cukes. The greenhouses are now in full swing, with plants arriving weekly. ![]() This is what the annual house looked like on 3/04/09 We are receiving most of our annuals this sometime this week. The last few days, Denny and Nick have spent cleaning out the greenhouse and doing plumbing. There was is always a lot to get ready for when the Spring rolls around…hopefully we will get some warm weather this year (for once). I will post some pics once we get the plants into the greenhouse, but for now…Think Spring! In only a couple weeks we will be firing up the heater in the annual greenhouse. Plants start to arrive the second week of March, including most of our annual plugs for hanging baskets. Here are a couple of pics from Earthworks this morning… This is round 2 of the Earthworks Garden Talk blog…. |
