Creating a beautiful and functional outdoor space in River Falls often requires more than planting flowers and laying pavers—it takes structure, vision, and thoughtful elevation design. This particular property had a steep and uneven backyard with little usable space. Rainwater would collect at the base, and mowing the slope had become dangerous and unmanageable. The homeowner wanted a solution that would make their yard functional for entertaining, improve drainage, and bring natural beauty back into view. Our recommendation? Retaining walls and tiered planting to reclaim the elevation.

The first step was excavation and grading. This process involved carefully cutting into the slope to create multiple flat areas at different elevations. Each level would eventually support either a planting bed or a hardscape feature. Once the soil was reshaped, we began building structurally sound retaining walls using premium stone blocks. These walls serve not just as visual anchors but as essential support systems that keep the soil in place and prevent erosion. To ensure accessibility between tiers, we incorporated natural stone steps and paver walkways that wind through the landscape. Low-voltage lighting was added to highlight pathways and enhance safety in the evening. The final touch was integrating irrigation zones tailored to each planting tier, allowing the homeowner to maintain their garden with ease. This tiered design not only expanded the usable space but created a peaceful, retreat-like environment that the homeowner can enjoy from every angle of their property.
