Our History
2ND GENERATION FAMILY-OWNED SMALL BUSINESS
Established in 1978 by brothers Dennis and Sam Caliva, Earthworks Landscaping is now in its second generation of family ownership. The River Falls, WI-based landscape design company has been defining the art of outdoor living for over 42 years, providing backyard landscapes in the St Croix Valley. It’s our mission to help you create a uniquely personal outdoor space that not only fits your values and budget but also reflects your own personality and lifestyle. We are your professional full-service design and build landscape contractor serving WI and MN. Servicing River Falls, Hudson, Stillwater, Woodbury, Lake Elmo, Hastings, New Richmond, Somerset, and surrounding communities in the St. Croix River Valley. The professional services we offer and provide include: Landscape Design and Installation, Hardscape Design and Installation (pavers, retaining walls, decks, pergolas, landscape lighting, etc.) and Softscape Design and Installation (trees, shrubs, perennials, and sod).

Nick Caliva
Owner – Landscape Design + Project Manager
Nick is a graduate of the Dakota County Technical College Landscape Design program, and also has attended the UW-River Falls Horticulture program. He has been involved in the green industry since a child, growing up working in the family business. Progressing his way up from nursery work and into landscape construction. With years of experience in the field, Nick then moved to operations management and into design and sales, and became a co-owner in 2015. Now, Nick specializes in designing and building creative and unique outdoor living spaces. His passion is leading his team of skilled craftsmen out on the job sites and creating beautiful landscapes that his customers truly love. In his free time, Nick enjoys spending time with his wife Talia and two teenage daughters, hunting, fly fishing, and mountain biking.

Dennis Caliva
Owner – Landscape Architect*
Dennis is a 1974 graduate of the UW-Madison Landscape Architecture program and has worked in the industry since he graduated. He started the landscape design and nursery business in 1976 with his brother Sam, later taking over sole ownership. Having designed 1000’s of landscape projects for homeowners and businesses in the St. Croix Valley, Dennis has been recognized in the industry with various landscape design awards. In his free time, Dennis enjoys reading, fishing, spending time at the cabin, and woodworking.
