St. Croix Crossing

Defining the Art of Outdoor Living since 1978.

St. Croix Crossing

This landscaping renovation project in Stillwater, MN was a phased project over two seasons. The homeowners bought an existing homesite overlooking the new St. Croix Crossing bridge from Minnesota to Wisconsin. The home was dated and in need of updating as was the landscape. After creating the initial landscaping budget with Earthworks Landscaping. A complete tear-down to the interior and exterior framing and addition of a 4-season porch were planned and construction began. Earthworks worked closely with the remodeling contractor on the project, as key components of the project needed close collaboration so that the outdoor living spaces that we designed flowed seamlessly with the interior remodel. The goal of the project was to maximize outdoor living space while preserving the stunning views of the St. Croix River Valley.

The swimming pool in the backyard and surrounding pool deck was about the only thing that didn’t get demoed on the exterior. Extensive retaining wall construction was needed on this sloped backyard. Interlocking concrete pavers were chosen as the surface for the patio and outdoor kitchen area. The same pavers were used on the driveway and front entry sidewalks in the front yard landscaping. Careful consideration of color and material choices were made so that the hardscaping matched the modern exterior look that the clients wanted. A sunken firepit area not only added depth to the landscape design, but the idea also takes advantage of the existing elevation and adds an interesting element to the overall hardscape design.
